I tried to send this in the middle of the week and now it's Friday and it still hasn't shown up, so I'll take the chance of re-posting. If it shows up twice, my apologies. To all, Gerry (the system that vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com runs on) occasionally takes a day or two off. When this happens, "Test", "Is the list down?" and similiar posts sent to vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com just get queued. This situation is exactly what the Spare Vanagon list on onelist.com is there for. The 400+ volks who are subscribed there KNOW if and when Gerry goes "tango-uniform". If you really want to know what's going on (or you just can't stand to be without Vanagon discussions) point your browser to http://www.onelist.com, sign up, and subscribe to vanagon. Most of the time the spare vanagon list is just like your spare tyre. You don't even know that it's there. When Gerry is up, the traffic is, maybe, one post a week. When Gerry goes down, the traffic increases to maybe 10 posts a day. A low traffic list. Note, this is not an automated process. When Gerry goes down, the messages/traffic are NOT automatically shifted to the Onelist server. However, the messages that are sent to vanagon@onelist.com are archived at at http://www.onelist.com/archives.cgi/vanagon and one of these days, David and I will get together and figure out how to dump the germaine ones into Gerry. (Test posts and the like sent to vanagon@onelist will NOT be archived on Gerry. Ever.) Jim Arnott Administration Spare Vanagon |
