>a) My '91 A/C compressor makes a somewhat ear-piercing whistle noise when >it kickes in. My mechanic thinks it's not worth trying to repair. Does >this sound right? No. If the compressor siezes up, and it will, it'll spread tons of metallic particles all through the system, causing untold grief when it comes time to repair the beast. This is, of course, assuming it's the compressor making the noise. >b) Does anybody have any (good or bad) experiences with the $300 >compressor that Bus Depot sells? If I'm not mistaken, Ron is selling BRAND SPANKING NEW Sanden SD-509 compressors for that price. That's a steal. Rebuilt compressors are almost always a gamble. Even so-called "name brands" like everco and four seasons have extremely poor quality control on their rebuilt compressors. Joshua Van Tol -- jjvantol@uswest.net |
