This is in fact how the "raising" is basically done. There is no need to raise the whole lid, just a small area where there is interference. Detlev uses a fiberglass "patch" to cover the small raised area. This is not noticeable under the Camper mattress. On my brother's 1.9 TD conversion the injection pump and linkage was about 1/2 inch above the lid. we cut a hole and used a heavy metal pie pan and screwed it down over the hole with silicone RTV around the rim.
