Subject: Re: My First Oil Filter Failure
Content-type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

I have commonly used VW-spec filters, but have on occasion been obliged to used Fram. A mistake. In all but one instance of using Fram (I have used four since 1993 on the same 88 Wolfsburg) I registered low oil pressure response after driving at highway speed. Often for only 10 minutes or so. Replacing the filter with Mahle ALWAYS relieved the symptoms, never to return until the next Fram was (reluctantly) installed.

That said, you may ask why Fram ever makes it into my bus. Simple. Lack of preparation to have the required filter on hand when leaving for road trips and changing the oil after a week on the road (highway speeds). Fortunately, I have driven very few miles with the Fram filter (which seems to work fine under around town conditions). -- Mark A. Williamson Denver, CO 88 Wolfsburg Weekender (135K)
