Throwing hardware at a software problem won't fix much, only increase
the time between crashes slightly.  The server you're proposing is
overkill capable of handling a great deal more (which is an
understatement) than we'd ever need.  And I REALLY don't think the list
would be too happy to have spent that much money only to still have it
crash (which it would if not properly configured).

Not sure what our maillist software's preference is, but if it's similar
to the software we have on our NT then Gerry's virtual swap is set too
high, both min and max should 128 if there's 64 mb of real memory,
evenly distributed across partitions if there is more than 1 partition
on the harddrive.  While NT apps are known for memory leaks, most can be
reduced if not eliminated if configured properly.  The maillist
software's site could possibly have technical specs as to what NT
settings are most favorable to it.  While having a backup drive would be
nice, we've put up with hardware related downtimes before and harddrives
are fairly reliable so I don't think it's a real issue unless there's
spare cash available.
