Thought I would update everyone on the list...I dropped by the Germany's
Best...an auto store on College Ave. (5291 College, Oakland, CA
510.658.8948) if you want to add it to the list of good VW shops.

They had a look at my AC...and since it is a serious health issue for me if
my AC doesn't work and it is hot out, he had an AC specialist locally drop
by and look at it with him.

My (and most other people that responded to me) opinion that I should RUN
RUN RUN from the shop that told me it was going to cost $1400+ to fix the
AC...was SO SO correct.

Phew, I am glad my intuition was right. A couple hundred bucks later I am
up and running...it was just that there was no freon. Since I am leaving
town tomorrow and it HAS to be working, I had him refill it and will be
going back sometime in the future to get it converted...thanks for the info
on the conversion Ron.

Roy, also thanks for the referral to the guy up by you...I just couldn't
get free to run up there.
