Well, the silly thing seems fine now. I've got over 500 miles on it and it behaves beautifully. I really have no idea what the problem was *if any* -- I'm beginning to think I hallucinated the whole thing. Part of it was my having gotten used to how a light 7-passenger feels; it's a *lot* different from the Westy. That explains why it felt weak, but I haven't a clue about the rest.
