>Once again, I am faced with an electical problem on my 1986 Wolfsburg >Westfalia Vanagon. My coolant temperature guage has started reading low >with the needle barely visible after the engine has warmed up. There >are no other symptoms - no flashing of the coolant low light, no >disappearance of coolant, and the fan does seem to cycle on and off >normally. I experienced this problem on my 87 Syncro. The gauge sender is located on the thermostat housing, the side toward the front of the vehicle. The electrical connction to the sender had deteriorated and the wire pulled right out of the crimp on connector when I took a look. Cleaned up the wire, installed a new crimp on connector, cleaned up the round sender terminal the connector pushes onto, and connected new connector to newly cleaned terminal. The gauge now works normally, needle stays centered on the LED. Hope this helps, Tony Anthony L. Mourkas Hampden, Maine, USA 1984 Vanagon Westfalia 1987 Vanagon GL Syncro 1991 Jetta Eco Diesel |
