Well, when I read the response from G. Matthew about being tight when adjusting the valves I thought to my self, 'It wasn't tight when I adjusted the valves was it?' Then I answered my self, don't want any one sided self-conversations here, "Adjust the valves?!? I didn't adjust any valves except for the No 1 cylinder." That did make a difference. The only places where it was hard to turn was close to TDC. I finally got the rest of it completed and got it started today. We were going camping in it this weekend down by Cannon River. You notice I said we WERE going camping in it this weekend. I don't know what happened, I'll find out when I tear it down again, but I had so much vibration in there that the bolt holding the fan on sheared off. I think the flywheel bolts did the same because when it died I could still hear it spin. Also, now when I crank it, all I get is the starter and the flywheel to turn. It's always something, isn't it. Oh, well! Back to the drawing board!! Brad Spear '72 Westy (Still laid up) '87 Syncro GL (Back up camper) |
