Subject: Replacing the Westy wallpaper
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I thought I'd share this with you all. The wallpaper on FreeBird has been peeling badly this spring. So I decided to go look at possibilities. This is what I have done to FreeBird (82 Westy).

I first removed the cabinets and stripped off the remaining wallpaper. I found a hair blow dryer works good for those stuborn sections. I filled in any scrapes or cuts. I left the sticky glue on there and did not try to sand. The surface is smooth anyway since I am going to texture it.

I took a section of wallpaper from the inside of the cabinet (some other pieces where faded) and went to Eagle hardware and had them make up an exact color match exterior premium paint. They matched the color perfectly!. I also picked up some Orangepeel Splatter from SprayTex. It is a drywall patch spray texture. I used this on the seen surfaces of the cabinet and not the interior.

After sprying this stuff on it looked great! Gave it a nice textured look. I then, using a small roller, painted it with that perfect match paint. It looks great. I am very pleased with it. It should hold up in all temperature extremes and moisture.

I will see how this holds up over time. I am sure that it will last longer then the wallpaper and will not fade as fast as it either.
