Having grown up cradled in beetles, a bus, and a two Westy's I have returned to my roots. To 'transport' our 2-1/2 and 1 year old, my wife and I have recently bought an '87 GL (w A/C for the kids, we live in the SE.) I feel like I've come home again, she is still getting used to people waving at her, but loves it! Has anyone seen a "Vanagon 101-What You Ought To Know" compilation for "newbees"? Things like that goofy buzzin' oil light (that one spooked me), coolant selection/issues, what tools you've got have with you, what parts to stow under the seat, etc. A mech. question...the trans. (4 spd) is tough to get into 2nd with load (such as on hills) or RPM's on the engine, 1,3 and 4 are fine. In addition, the Reverse lock out seems too easy to get past (tough when you're reaching for 1st in a hurry.) Are the two issues related and/or adjustable? Thanks, Chris '87 Vanagon GL '87 Honda Accord (199k) '86 Honda Civic Si (236k) <to be sold> |
