Strange coincidence.... I did the same thing when I did my first VW engine, this was a bug engine for my friend. I quickly found that something was wrong, but I had to get new bearings for the crank. At my expense, of course... Luckily, the crank survived, and the engine (completely stock, except for the cam and modified Solex carb) is the smooothest Type1 I've ever seen or driven.
