Subject: Junk Yard visit /14" Alloy Rims/need a lap belt
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Fellow listees,

I had the pleasure to visit a junk yard this Saturday morning near Buffalo NY.

They happen to have all the left over vehicle from the Department of Transportation which were used for crash testing purposes. There were several of our beloved vanagons used for crash tests where they put in dummys and lots of white dust to see which part gets hit. One van was hit so squarly it was perfectly flat in front. If anyone did hit in this manner I was glad to see plenty of leg room still available to escape any major injuries. Of course the engines were gone but every other parts were new, that is with not much road wear. Now its old and rusty from being in a junk yard. So the point is that our Vanagon appeared to have taken the frontal impact extremely well.

The guy had other wrecked Vanagons including a 91 and a 90 both with the alloys still on them and with the right Michelins. (2 were deeply grooved where the van frame had rubbed during a tow). After returning to the front office I asked how much: The guy had the balls to say $800!

So if anyone is really desparate for alloys let me know and I will fetch them.

What I originally stopped in there for was a retractable lap belt for the rear facing MV opera seat. These guys have one but want too much money. If any one has a spare seat belt please communicate with me. Also if anyone needs the metal bracket that mounts behind the batery compartiment for the opera seat, let me know.
