You can make a platinum plug in any heat range you desire. However, some platinum plugs (bosch) use teeny tiny platinum electrodes. In low milage engines, this works fine. On old beaters that may not maintain correct fuel mixture at all times (i.e. about half of all vanagons) they foul out easily.
