Subject: '81 Westy, fuel pump won't work.... why do I bother...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hey everyone.

I have a problem. The fuel pump on my '81 automatic has stopped working. When I run a wire from the battery to it, it works, so there is nothing wrong with the pump itself. When I turn on the key, I do not hear the pump running at all. The vehicle will start for a second or so, then die. I suspect it is runnning on the cold start valve only.

So, is there a relay for the pump as Haynes would lead me to believe? If so, where is it? Is this likely to be the problem? Could it be a problem with the ignition switch? Is there a fuse for the pump somewhere?

This has happened out of the blue, shortly after I removed and replaced my starter. Could that have something to do with it? I mean do any of the wires on the starter have a conection to the pump?

I know that's a lot of questions, but I'm at a total loss as to where to start looking for a solution. My sister w/kids will be home from BC in a few weeks, and I've promised her the use of my camper for two weeks, so, I'd really like to get this squared away.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Bob Norman '81 Westy Gander Newfoundland Canada
