   My guess is that the fork from the pedal to the mater cylinder
is warnout. I've seen this on many Vanagons. Good luck fixing it.
There is an adjustment in this area, but almost impossible to get to.
Did your clutch squeek when you pushed it in ? This is a warning sign to
oil the thing. (also very difficult to do). I suggest oiling this linkage
in the clutch area, often. The easiest way maybe to remove the dash
cluster and work from the top. (just an idea, as I was looking at mine
last night). Raining and 55 deg. here. Not going to work on my Van
tonight.
