I finally broke down and bought a Mighty Vac one-man bleeding jar to go
with my hand-operated vacuum pump.  It seems to work fine (I've
sucessfully bled brakes and clutch with it) but I feel I use more brake
fluid using it then when I've bled brakes and clutch systems using the
two-person system.  Because you're "sucking" on the bleeder screw you
tend to pull air in around the threads of the screw and into the bleeding
tube.  That doesn't affect the final job, but I probably continue to pump
(and use brake fluid) longer than I need to.
