Otmar, could be that the air entering the engine compartment through the side vents
flowed out around the engine instead of through the radiator. This might have been
the path of least resistance. Did you cut out part of the lid and fit the radiator
into the lid? Maybe a radiator that offered lower resistance to air flow would have
worked better.
