I would want to know which transmission and shift linkage was used. I would also want to make sure that the vehicle is smog legal in my state. Use of the correct evaporative emission control devices and fuel tank could be easily forgotten by an amateur mechanic. The fuel line from diesel tank to engine is not designed for high pressure, but the gas application is a high pressure system downstream of the fuel pump. The battery (in the engine compartment) in the diesel Vanagon might interfere with the cold air intake duct of the waterboxer. Finally, since the wiring looms are completely different, I would wonder how that was converted and whether all electrical functions are working OK.
