This weekend I decided to head south to LA from Hayward CA to see my wife
Jeanette. As I pulled into street where she works, my clutch got soft and i
couldn't shift gears. I managed to pull into her work parking lot and stop our
Vanagon GL. Upon inspecting under the car, I noticed a slight amount of fluid on
the left side  of the transmission case. Saturday I called our VW mechanic in
Sunset Beach and he said it was probably the Clutch slave hydraulic cylinder
that sits over the transmission on that side of the case.

I called the local VW Parts house and they had one in stock. I replaced it
Saturday afternoon and Jeanette helps me bleed the cylinder by pressing the
clutch in while I opened and closed the bleeder valve.

Well the clutch didn't respond, and now my only thoughts are a broken Fork on
Throw out bearing.
The clutch was replaced last year and it shouldn't have more than 25K miles on
it.

I don't have a manual with me, but the reservoir behind the instrument cluster
that is for the brakes is the same one used for the clutch, Right?

Anyone have any other ideas?
