Hi Mark, It sounds to me like your lifter. Since I'm not there, I can't hear it to be sure. Anyway, when my 82 air-cooled Westy sits, she does the same thing. What I did to stop it was to put in 1/2 qt of Marvel Mystery Oil with an oil change. Within 30 seconds or so the lifters became quiet! I now use it in every oil change. Oil is another story. Air-cooled needs the protection more than the waterboxers. In summer the going weights are 30W, 20W50 dino or synthetic. The oil topic is being discussed on the Type2 list. Since your Westy is an air-cooled I would also advise you to join the type2 list.
