you have just that - a '90 non-GL vanagon. in '90 and '91, because vanagon prices were getting so nuts and sales were down (more people were buying chrysler minivans) VW marketing came up with the brilliant idea of offering a base model Non-GL vanagon, that could be optioned out to how the buyer wanted it, rather than coming with all the expensive goodies that the GL came standard with. Also, all the '90-'91 Syncro vanagons that werent campers, were NON-GL vanagons.

'90-'91 Non-GL Vanagons came standard with: -black steel bumpers -no tach -analog clock instead of digital -grey "tweed" upholstry w/ red/blue checks in it -rubber floormats instead of carpet -rear weekender style sofabed w/ cushion over engine -carat style rear facing jumpseats (but in grey tweed) -just a metal dash w/ no map light -front grey tweed seats, withOUT armrests and a few other things.

you could get a/c as an option.
