The clicking/knocking noises I was hearing started my wondering if I had messed up the CV joints last year when I repacked them, so last night I had a look: With one wheel off the ground, trans in neutral, there is a definite knocking/rattling sound as one slowly turns the wheel. Crawling under, I listened while rocking the week back and forth. No noise from the CVs, but from the transaxle instead. (big surpise). In fact, I could quite clearly hear the sound coming from the nose cone of the trans, when turning the wheel back and forth, it sounded as if the shaft in the trans was slopping back and forth in the nosecone. I'm not what this means, but thought I'd relate it to the list in case someone else has a similar noise. (which translates to a steady whine at speeds above 25mph).
