Gilles, a kilowatt output means at least 100-amp draw. A battery that would fit under the driver's seat would supply that for I think well under a half hour. Have you considered this? At 100-amp drain a battery rated for 80 amp-hours would probably supply less than 40 before complete exhaustion. The D-8 batteries in common use on boats are something like 30 x 45 x 100 cm and weigh over 100 kg each...if you really want to power big loads and stay within Westy weight constraints, a gasoline generator will give you much better energy density (along with stink and unholy racket).
