A passenger van seat can be used but will prevent access to the fridge, etc. when installed because it is too long (being a bench seat rather than a jumpseat). However, there was an actual optional Westfalia seat for that year. It is a very rare item, having been a rather expensive option at the time, but I do have one. It snaps right into the seat tracks that are under your carpet. It swivels 360 degrees, just like the front seats, and has a storage compartment below it. The seat is tan velour (same as used on the '85-87 range GL Westies), but since the seat tracks on it are standard Vanagon, any seat could be substituted. The seat is used but was in storage in the owner's garage almost since new. He told me that he used it perhaps three times ever. Price is $250 plus shipping.
