Subject: seat repair
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Just thought that I would let everyone know how I fixed the springs in the back situation on my passenger seat. After removing the backrest from the seat bottom, I unbent the clips at the bottom of the backrest so that I could slide the material up the frame. Just as I had surmised, the horsehair type stuffing that VW used had deteriorated and was loose throughout the seat. I vacuumed up the debris and started to look through various catalogs for a replacement. Couldn't find anything for a Vanagon (go figure) but Rocky Mountain Motorworks <www.motorworks.com> carried a pad for late baywindow bucket seats, so I took a look at a friend's '77 Westy and decided that they were close enough to try it. Got the pad in yesterday and half an hour later I have a very comfortable seat. The pad fits well and overall I would say that this is one of the easiest things that I have done to the van. An upgrade to later model seats with armrest might be nicer, but my uphostery is in decent shape, so I went the repair route. YMMV, Scott
