Is there such a thing as a limited slip upgrade for a 2WD vanagon trans?

I recall seeing an article in Euro Car about a stiffer "thrust washer" or something like that, which provides more limited slip capabilty in Golf/Jetta transaxles, so I was wondering...

It is really quite pathetic how bad the traction is on a 2wd and uneven terrain, so I was hoping maybe some improvement could be built into my impending trans repair.
