Subject: Removing middle seat/81 Transporter

When we were arguing over the divorce, the one thing that was untouchable was my vanagon! Of course I got killed everywhere else, but I got the van, and now have no place to work on it as the apt place won't allow any car repair on premises. Oh, how I miss my garage.

Anyway, I would like to remove the middle seat on my 1981 van but have a few concerns about the simplicity, or lack thereof.

If anyone is familiar with this, I would like to ask what the hardware is that secures the seat. The van has the optional gas furnace beneath it, thus there is a large metal shield over the entire mid-section of the undercarriage (do they all have this?) If it is to be easy, there will be nuts welded to the floor, and I will remove the bolts and slide that sucker right out. yea, right. If the nuts are not welded to the underside, how do I get them off and on without a major crisis under the van. I am hoping this is easy. Can anyone confirm that hope? :)

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Best Regards from Utah,

John
