I have one of these, but it is called a "camper" (non-GL) by VW rather than a Multivan. Though I am not the original owner, it appears to have come with two VW batteries (one under each seat) from the factory. When I purchased it, the original second (dead) VW battery was under the driver's seat.

As an aside, the relay beside the battery appears to be the same relay as that found in an '87 GL camper which I purchased a few months ago. I did not think that this was supposed to be the case, but the part numbers are the same. All systems work in both campers, so I have no other information to offer.
