Subject: Tips Requested Prior to R-134a Fill-up

Hi Volks:

I have found a good site on refilling A/C systems with r-134a. It is at <http://www.autosite.com/garage/repairqa/qaaircon.asp>

However, I don't know how to:

1. "remove" R12 (not that I would - 'cause that would make me a "bad" person)

2. Locate Receiver-dryer to check the condition of refrigerant (to see if I need a new RX'er-dryer) Do I have to dismantle anything to get to it?

BTW: In Manitoba, you have to be a "certified refrigerant technician" or something like that to do the work yourself (legally). This means that you have to be a Journeyman or such in order to do that kind of work. You also have to attend a 1 day course, and get a certificate on the safe handling of ozone-depleting substances.

The only exceptions are for working on home refrigerators, as to work on those you don't have to be a certifiable tradesman. ;>0

The Gummint told me so.
