Hi Volks:

Some more info for those who may be interested in the planned Westy Gathering for the Winnipeg Folk Festival:

Press Releases Opening Concert-Thursday Evening, July 8

The Winnipeg Folk Festival announces the latest additions to its musical line-up. Steve Earle and John Hiatt will be appearing Thursday evening only as part of the opening night concert July 8.

Steve Earle is well known for his raw gritty vocals and bare-bones songs of the everyday struggles of life. His music may include acoustic, rock, bluegrass, Celtic, or classic country whatever the style, they're all Earle's songs.

John Hiatt has written an extensive catalogue of songs in his career, many of them covered by artists such as Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, and Linda Ronstadt. Last year, this soulful singer was presented with the Artist Songwriter of the Year citation at the Nashville Music Awards, in recognition of his musical achievements.

Also performing for the Thursday evening concert will be Kate & Anna McGarrigle. Hailing originally from Quebec, their distinctive harmonies and elegantly written songs have made these sisters long-time Folk Festival favourites.
