Two years ago I was searching here in the Bay Area, California for a Westie Syncro. The best I could come up with for an 87 was near 17k. I dont remember the specifics on the van, but it certainly wasnt mint, and had at least 80-90k miles on it.

I started looking out of state and found a van in New Mexico that had JUST had the tranny rebuilt by German Transaxle. I ended up flying to Phoenix and the guy drove the van up there. It was a bit dirty on the inside, but not bad, 128k on it (been rebuilt once). Coupla ding/scratches on the outside with some minor exterior rust in the dings. Equiped with a nice stereo and dual battery. Anyway, I drove off with it for 13,500.

Had some mechanical ups and downs since then, but no one said owning a vanagon would be easy.
