Hi David,

Where are you, geographically? You certainly can't be in the San Francisco area... Not if you're talking about a complete rebuild, anyway. Here the installed price of decent rebuilt waterboxer engine is $3000 MINIMUM. And that is overly optimistic. I usually quote it at $4000 and almost always do it for less, but it's certainly possible to go over. I would be real careful to find out just what is going to be done (Rebuilt heads or new? If rebuilt what procedures are used? Three angle seat cut? All new valves or reground? New pistons and cylinders or re-ringed? New cam and lifters or re-ground? New oil pump or reman? New clutch parts? New waterpump and thermostat?), and to get it in writing. Or are they friends of yours? Even so, they would have to be REAL good friends to do the whole job for $2200...

What about it out there -- Could I get a sampling of prices for this job from around the country? I'm curious to know if I'm living in an isolated bubble, or is our pricing comparable to, say other metropolitan/upscale neighborhoods.

Coby
