Comments: To: Coby Smolens <cobys@WELL.COM>

Klaus had a new engine installed by the dealer who originally sold him back in '89. The invoice from the dealership for the new motor, including cooling system hoses, diff solenoid, clutch, cat, driveshaft, and u-joints was $3,377.11

The engine, according to the invoice was $2,850.90 (part number 025100031EX)

As luck would have it, that engine failed shortly thereafter, and another was installed under warranty by another local dealer - same part number, this time the invoice reads $3,873.40 and a core charge of $1,185.00 (net $2,688.40) Total invoice with new exhaust system, water pump, rear brake job, and replacement of a CV boot was (gulp) $5,707.65

Hope that helps. If it would have been me making the decision, a Eurospec or 5-cylinder would have looked mighty attractive... :-)
