Subject: Vacation location

Fellow listees and avid campers:

I have a dilemma that I wish was a more frequent problem: where to go for a two-week camping trip. My wife, 2.5 year old daughter, and I plan to meet up with another couple and do some camping during the last two weeks of June. Here are the requirements (not in order of importance):

1. Location makes sense starting from Santa Barbara and San Francisco, CA 2. Great scenery, mountain biking, and possibly kayaking opportunities 3. Good weather (defined as warm, not too hot, and little rain/fog) 4. Opportunities for wilderness (rugged/primitive) camping where 4WD is perhaps necessary (this is our preferred type of camping)

Baja would be ideal, but I am concerned about taking my young daughter, and quite frankly, I don't want to go to Baja until I know how to fix the Syncro myself if something goes wrong. We were also thinking about Oregon/Washington, but are concerned about getting rain/fog (we get enough of that in San Francisco and Santa Barbara in June <g>). Mammoth Lakes/Lake Tahoe sound good, too, but we would like to try and avoid the crowds. (picky, aren't we?)

I'd appreciate any insights and suggestions anyone is willing to share.

Thanks in advance,
