These shelves fit on dashboards without padding, I dont know if the padding is removable, but it looks like it is. I picked up one of these shelfs at a junkyard today, they actually got a Vanagon, and it is even a Syncro!! These shelves were sold at the dealers when the Vanagons were in the showroom. This one crashed into a tree, I will try to get some photos of the left front corner and door (separated), the car is very crashed, the lady driver spent a couple weeks in hospital, and I spent 90 minutes getting the fuel gauge sender out of the tank.
