Bryan,

I have an 89 Westy and had the same hose done last year in July. the A/C hose is the big one that runs up behind the westy closets. It is a real pain to disconnect it and pull the cabinets away. It's even more fun re-assembling this. Pick a nice shady cool place to do this and a good friend.

Anyway I found a local AC shop in my town and they charged me $51 for the hose and the proper fittings. A far cry from $290 that VW wanted for this hose. They got me latter with the freon refill $$.

I will repeat my warning to all:

CHECK WHERE THIS BIG HOSE TWISTS AND TURNS UP THE BEAM FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTIMENT. My hose has scrapped and rubbed against the compartiment wall long enough to wear a flat spot and finally wear too thin to hold the freon. It is an easy fix by adding extra padding, while the hose is still OK. It is an expensive fix to replace this stinking hose.

Hope this helps,

Joel Cort 89 Syncro Westy
