With all the "convert to I-5 engine" advice being given lately, I'm becoming curious about some of the details. I seem to remember that there was a separate mailing list for this; does that still exist? If it's on-topic, I'd like to get a few more details. I see the kit with an engine is $4500 from Van-Again. I'm just curious what the bottom line is with installation, misc. other parts, exhaust, whatever. Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems like it's going to quickly approach the $5500-$6000 by the time you're done. Maybe I'm being myopic, but it seems like I can put in a rebuilt waterboxer and do a lot of head gaskets for that kind of money. -Karl Karl and Kristina Bloss, Trexlertown, PA '87 GL Weekender "Beverley" Mechanic list: http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/vwshops Busses by the Trail - Oct 15-17, 1999: http://www.enter.net/~bloss/vw/bbtt |
