Steve,

My name is john and I have 2 1986 syncros. The only Vanagon repair manual worth a damn is the Robert Bentley (official VW) Vanagon manual for about $90.00. You can order it from LIMBO-its advertised in every newsletter or through any offical VW repair manual outlet.

Personally I only use the VW engine coolant in spite of the price..... but I believe much of the bad rap about the wasserboxer cyl head leakage "problem" may be rooted in ..."just as good as" claims regarding other engine coolant products.

I don't know anything about the K&N filter system...........
