Dan- most Vanagon manual transmissions I get for rebuild have between 100 & 175k miles on them. 3rd /4th clutch gear hub(slides between 3/4th) crack. If driven with noies too long, then other major expenses are inevitable such as ring/pinion or at the least a gear set or two.
