Now *that* strikes me as the hard way. Lots easier to take 'em as they come and just filter them into a Van-list folder. :)

You have to actually execute the zippedfiles.exe attachment, the name will be on the cover. I've never seen Gerry's digest mode, so I don't know exactly what the msgs look like, but a .exe file should certainly be distinguishable from the others.
