I don't think this is a good practice. Seals generally should go in dry, and into a dry case hole. A long time ago, in a shop far, far away (sorry) I put some aviation gasket sealant on a tough subaru cam seal thinking the gummy thick liquid would ease installation and then dry tough and keep the seal in place. You can guess what I was doing a few days later, a new seal and one of the belts for free. Patrick Free advice is worth every penny.
