Ken,

When I last researched alternatives, I found that they were mixes and because of different vapor pressures of the components, each leaked at a different rate. So, if you need to add refrigerant, you need to evacuate the system and refill from scratch. Since all auto air conditioners leak by design (just like gas struts), the day will come when you have to do this.

I noticed that the Freeze-12 info doesn't mention this. Has something changed?

I got my license several years ago by mail for $20. I have been refilling with R12 and the price has been coming down. I haven't checked the price this year yet, but last year it was about $12 a can.
