The front diff will still be turning even with the drive shaft removed so you aren't going to prevent any wear and tear there. There might even be a bit more wear and tear on the VC with the shaft removed as it will try to lock up to keep the tranny side rotating at the same rate as the diff side. This would be a lot of work for no benefit. Not to mention where do you store a dirty driveshaft while you're travelling and camping?
