i've done a swap, and yes it does cost a significant amount more in the beginning, and for the first year or two you are constantly tweaking the system... eg, new tranny, that kind of stuff, totall i think i've put over 8grand into the van, but thats counting a rebuilt tranny, and tons of other new stuff, and labour costs, because in my case, i'm going to college and can't sit there and work on the van every day for a good 5-6 hours.

anyways, a good rule of thumb when you are doing something major on your vehicle like an engine swap, is this: calculate how much you think you are going to spend, double it and add an extra grand for good measure. that will be how much your project will cost you excluding labour.
