If you look around, you can get it for a lot cheaper. Bugformance stocks it for $95, but I got mine from amazon.com for 70-odd ....

Possibly. My '88 boxer got a re-seal last week. I replaced the 100% water that the PO used with that orange 5-year stuff.

Looking into this, too. Where I live can get seriously dusty & the stock filter easily gets bunged. I believe the K&N filters are less restrictive to air flow, too ...
