Thanks, Darrell, David, Anthony and George and the Westyman, but no luck. I cleaned the grounds ...no change. Swapped in my old AFM...no change. last night I changed the fuel filter....no change.

It sounds like it's a fuel problem. It idles fine, starts fine...but hold the throttle open and it surges like it gets fuel and then isn't getting fuel, but the momentum of the engine keeps it going until it gets a little fuel and surges and then starves...surges and then starves. Does it cold or hot and at all throttle settings, although this seemed to start out only at initial throttle...

Back to Bentley...i thought i saw that there is a little in-line fuel filter somewhere, too. Maybe that's it.

Thanks for the help everyone. Sure hope we don't have to cancel this trip. I'll never find a shop who will take me on a friday morning, i'm sure. steve
