Subject: Fuel recovery system overhaul
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all,

I am finally tired of smelling gas everytime I fill up the gas tank on my 90 Carat. I want to minimize the van's downtime, and I only want to lower the tank once. I have already ordered the plastic pressure equalization tube, the plastic T, fuel injection hose, good clamps, and grommets for all places where a pipe or fuel guage sender goes through the wall of the tank and the plastic expansion bottles. Since the plastic lines going to the recovery bottles are all as brittle as a dry twig, I was planning on simply replacing them with longer lengths of rubber fuel line. I will probably hook them up with the tank lowered slightly, so when I put it back, I will probably have a little slack in them. Is this bad? Should I put Vaseline or any type of sealant on the new rubber grommets before I install them? Are there any other hints from those who have already been through this rite of passage?

Thanks,

Michael Townsend
