Todd, et. al,
I found my fill plug frozen on my 91 Westy last summer -after- I had
already drained the tranny: Yeah!!
I was ecstatic as you might imagine. I was envision a tow to a tranny
shop to get out of what started as simple drain-the-gearbox/replace job.
I solved my problem by: 1) getting som 5/8" clear poly tubing and a
threaded nylon 90 degree elbow, one end barbed, one NPT. ) put plastic
tubing on barbed end, electrical tape on the NPT thread until the taped
fit firmly in the drain plug hole 3) held 90 degree firm against drain
plug hole with bungee cord 4) took plastic tubing up into engine
compartment and filled tranny using the clear tubing as indicator of how
full tranny was getting; I over filled in anticipation of "breaking the
rig" loose and the ensuing flow. 5) removed bungee,held drain plug next
to 90 degree, pulled 90 degree out and quickly tapped the flow out of
the tranny with the drain plug and 6) Voila! you tell me how much I
saved.
I'll have that dude (fill plug) unstuck I take it in for service my my
mechanic, or whenever the tranny comes out.
My approx $6.02' USD's on the matter.
