Well, my friend Suzi is giving up on her hacked-together former diesel van and getting an 88 Golf.

Unfourtinately, I've just bought a house, and even though I am blessed with my own driveway and garage space for the first time in my life, I know to pick my battles, and this van is not worth the wrath of my wife.

So here's the deal: It is an 82 Vanagon L (corduory cloth interior) Diesel. At some time in its past the diesel engine was blown up. It was replaced with a 75 Rabbit engine (the only year for the 1.5) with carb. Since the rabbit engine was carbed, and the Vanagon engine sits at a very different angle, a piece was fabricated to tilt the carb to sit upright. This piece is now broken. the engine doesn't run, she's sick of it.

The whole job was crappily done by a local "mechanic," known for his shoddy ways. Vacuum hoses are plugged with turn signal bulbs, the carb is from a Pinto, and so on.

Sounds like fun eh?

Here are the good points:

It has all the parts to do a L4 VW conversion to your van, engine mounts, oil pan and pump, tranny bell housing (on the original diesel tranny) all the weird hoses, both skid plates, compete exhaust, and so on.

It has an Eberspacher heater, bulit for Diesel, that is currently disconnected, but by all accounts, is complete.

Suzi and I talked about it, and she would *really* like to sell it whole. Neither she, nor I is any position to piece the van out and ship stuff. I will gladly help someone strip it, but you'd need to handle disposing of the remains. I can point you to the local scrap metal yards.

Hopefully the diesel parts are just what someone on the list is looking for. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or call me at 614-268-6624 during reasonable hours for eastern time, or call Suzi at 614-267-9524.

We're located in Columbus OH. Thanks,
